November Moon
A Alexandra von Grote Film

There are many movies made about the Nazi invasion and occupation throughout Europe, and if that is what you are in the mood to watch, this is not the flick for you.

Although the Nazi occupation and violation of Germany and France is a part of the story line, the movie does not attempt to paint a graphic or detailed picture of the atrocities perpetrated against Jews, lesbians and others. The movie is about survival -- not always pretty, and not always without the compromise of ethics and beliefs -- and love.

The relationship is developed between the two women naturally and without contrivance. The love between the two is decidedly understated -- and with very little graphic detail. Ms. von Grote manages to portray in natural love scenes an eroticism I seldom see in films today. That which you do not see is all the more tantalizing.

November Moon tells the gripping story of a wartime romance between two beautiful and strong-willed women. On the brink of World War II, November Messing flees her native Germany for the relative safety of Paris. There, she meets and falls in love with Férial, a fiercely patriotic young French woman. Their relationship becomes dangerous when the Germans occupy the city. Férial decides to hide November - and to take a position with a Nazi paper to disguise both her lesbianism and her sympathy for the Jews. Amid a series of life-changing wartime events, November and Férial are challenged by extraordinary circumstances to realize their truest selves and to live - or die - by those choices.

I would rate this movie an A -- Better than most lesbian-themed or lesbian-friendly movies. The writing, directing and acting is strong -- something rarely found in this type of film.
