Good Vibrations: Complete Guide To Vibrators

Written By: JOANI BLANK WITH ANN WHIDDEN

There is a wonderfully fun site on the internet, Good Vibrations, which covers just about every aspect of sex. They not only sell toys, books, videos -- they also offer resources and information on products, so you know what you want to buy before you buy it. And for fun, they even have an antique vibrator museum!

Part of what I thoroughly enjoy about this site is how comfortable they are with their topic. There is no hemming or hawing -- no cutesy euphemisms - no side-stepping issues. These folks are so comfortable with their topic they make the visitor comfortable with it as well. An aside -- the name of their publishing company is Down There Press and Yes Press. Quite adorable, in my opinion, so the cutesiness is forgiven.

Before this begins to sound like an advertisement for the site, let me tell you about one of their books, titled Good Vibrations; The New Complete Guide To Vibrators. And before you jump to any conclusions, let me assure you that this book is far from being just a catalogue for their sales. It is written by Joani Blank with Ann Whidden. The book covers everything I knew about vibrators plus a lot more, and in a very comfortable, sometimes amusing manner.

The first chapter of this book covers the history of the vibrator. Although I expected this to be quite boring, I found it amusing and fascinating instead. This history goes back to Victorian women -- which gives you a clue. Quite delightfully presented as well.

Ms. Blank then goes into the different types of electric vibrators, battery-operated vibrators and how to buy a vibrator. These three chapters are really a must read if you are thinking of buying a vibrator for the first time -- or if you have never bought a vibrator on your own. The information contained in these chapters certainly made me think differently about where and what type of vibrator I would buy.

The author then breaks out and addresses in detail the three very different types of users -- the new-user, the female user and the male user.

First the new user. This chapter is written in a manner that is factual, informative and comfortable with the topic. How to pick the type of vibrator you want to buy, how to use the different types and how to properly care for a vibrator.

Under the chapter for female users Ms. Blank also covers sexual information as well as different ways women enjoy using vibrators. And like all things sexual - - what works for one woman may not work for another. So do not fret. Other topics covered in this chapter include the infamous G-Spot, never having experienced an orgasm and even vaginal exercises. Again -- every chapter is informative and fun.

The book wraps up by covering typical questions and urban legends -- as in Vibrators: Who's the Boss? -- as well as information on the authors and recommended reading resources.

The feeling that remained as I finished this book was that Ms. Blank and Ms. Whidden not only know their topic fully, but they are professional and experienced in helping people realize their full potential. Definitely an A+ from me!

Until next time...
