Soul Speak: Poetry on Love, Lust and Life

Written By: TRISH SHIELDS
Reviewed By: Lou Danby

"Have you ever touched a love so pure that you know without reservation you can't possibly live without it?"

"Have you ever loved a woman so deeply that the lines between you blurred?"

These are two of the beautiful lines written in Trish Shield's collection of poems entitled Soul Speak. The cover depicts a sense of peace which is not immediately apparent in some of her poems.

Upon initial reading, the writer appeared to be a very unhappy woman; however, as the poems continued it became clear that this is more than a collection of poetry. These poems are a woman's story, her journey toward finding the 'right one' or her 'true love'.

Soul Speak
From the author:
A description of my proposed book? Well, it's to be a compilation of love/lust poetry that speaks from the heart and the soul.

My poems all have a universal appeal so that as long as you've felt love, you can identify with the emotions expressed.

Trish touches on what many of us feel in our quest for true love. She speaks of loves wanted, lustful love, loves lost and love found. She speaks of healthy and unhealthy loves; how sometimes the past, if not dealt with, can impede the progress of an healthy love. Included are poems of lovers separated by distance, of inherent partings and longing. Trish also included a few poems that touch on S&M that may or may not appeal to the reader.

Many of the poems in this collection did, as suggested in the title Soul Speak. Kismet is such a poem of two women meeting, loving, and being wed. True Love shares the wonder, hope and pain many of us experience on this journey toward the love of our life. Loves First Kiss brought back very vividly the first kiss shared with a woman - bliss!

Trish has found her special love. They share a life with Trish's three children on Vancouver Island.
